Let me start by saying I enjoyed the first book "Izzivisions" and couldn't wait for "Burnished Ballads Wrinkled Rhymes" to be finished and I must say I absolutely love the book. Although I do not read poetry often Izzy has a way of writing poetry that makes it not only interesting.. it may make you laugh, cry or feel many emotions in so few words. Izzy has lived a full and exciting life and it is so wonderful that she has written to share some of these experiences with all of us. She is so very honest about her feelings of growing older and her memories of years gone by are so exceptional and do bring back some very precious personal memories. I for one hope she writes another book for us to enjoy!! Izzy is surely "one special lady"
This amazing author has written a lovely tribute to existing in this world. Yet not an ordinary life of just existing but one of reaching beyond the boxes society would strive to put one in. Living a life full of taking risks, willing to love deep and stepping into unknown territories, the author shares not just a glimpse but gives one a full window seat!
Burnished Ballads Wrinkled Rhymes is a wonderful read for any age. I'm a child of the "Sixties," born and raised in NY too but Isolde Hunter has captured the heart and soul of anyone who has experienced life anywhere, at any age but especially if you're from NY. Having worked in just about every borough in NYC memories flood my mind as I read her words of beloved Brooklyn. But what really warmed my heart were her memories and recollections of "Grandma's recycling" (we all did it!) and "Mother's charm bracelet" (we all have one but it's not Pandora!) But the best surprise of all is the beautiful photo of Izzy and her son Zach taken in the Piazza San Marco in Venezia. My husband and I just returned from a magical trip in Italy and Venice is our favorite city. So please, stop what you're doing, put down the phone, and pick up this book. It's a soulful journey full of warm memories of life and love. You'll laugh out loud and smile through your tears, enjoy!
At first, I thought this was a book just for "old folks", Not So! A wide variety of subjects are tackled! There is something for everyone in Izzy's latest book - a life's lesson, a glimpse at the past when life seemed simple (but if was just different), or a look into the future (get prepared) from an Author that has experienced all the emotions from a lengthy journey through life. Izzy is a master at saying so much in so few words and tempting you to recall memories or triggering your imagination given your age group. I am certain that many will read this and smile at a passage that will rekindle a lost memory they had not thought about in years! I found myself ear-marking pages of my favorite passages to easily find and reread at a later date. This is an easy, fast read that will leave you with reflective thoughts like a good movie would! A book I read through without interruption, getting enriched and enlightened by every word, being indoctrinated in how to get old gracefully and graciously. In her inimitable style, Izzy has put into verse, her trepidation at the possibility of losing physical and mental attributes as she ages. She exhibits complete congruence of emotion and mind as she skillfully navigates through her enriching moments, her triumphs, her shortcomings, her heartfelt concern for this Earth and her deep faith in the Divine. There is an expansion of spirit as she leads us with unique perspective, to the beauty and freedom of expression of the dandelion, to deep insights into human inter-relationships and good parenting, through the pathos of war veterans suffering from PTSD, and on a lighter side, to the unfettered joy that pets bestow on us. As the pages are turned, one is no longer of this body because universal consciousness has crept softly into the soul on the wings of beautiful poetry, transcending us from the aging of the flesh to the eternal youth of spirit.

The Author is a long-time friend. I loved learning about her childhood! He humour and emotions can be felt by all readers! She shows her struggles and how she passes through and gains peace. We all need to find that peace. I encourage all to pick up this book and read it with a cup of tea! Think about your past struggles and how far you have come. One day last month when I was browsing through 's list of books, I came across Burnished Ballads Wrinkled Rhymes. Since it was on aging (and like everyone else, I'm aging) and it wasn't very expensive, I ordered it. I wasn't expecting much--just an ordinary book of ordinary poems written by an ordinary writer. How wrong I was! This book is extraordinary, evoking the whole scale of emotions, complete with genuine laughter and nostalgic tears. Isolde Hunter has a real feeling for words and phrases. From her poem on Letting Go to her description of "the sun inhaling the morning dew," to her tribute to her now-grown son, this author holds her reader spellbound. I seldom call a book "great." I read many good books, interesting books, exciting books--but very very few "great books".
But I have to admit that Izzy Hunter has aced it! She's written a great book. I feel enriched for having read it.
After I had finished the book, I realized that Isadore Hunter was also the author of another wonderful book titled Izzyvisions. Another little treasure that I enjoyed enormously.
